Write an Article

What is the article?

The "article" is a utility which gives members who have accounts in our website the opportunity to design web pages related to their accounts with the most flexible way ever and without demanding any HTML language background knowledge.

Designing a web page using the article utility is easier and organizing than writing a word document especially when we talk about the relation between text and multimedia elements.

How could articles be useful?

Articles could be used almost everywhere, you can write an article related to your Profile (whether an organization or individual), related to a Project, or even related to a product inside your store, and here are some examples:

Write a document about how intelligently you or your company has solved a big dilemma in a project with a revolutionary way.

Design a page that contains Youtube videos about a project.

In case you own a store, write an article about your amazing offers.

In case your organization's activity is all about providing services, design as many articles equivalent to the number of services your organization offers.

Design an image gallery article for all the employees working in your organization along with their contact information, then decide later whether you want this page to be available for reading by the public or only available for you.

Dedicate a page for the elite clients (along with their logos) you or your company deals with.

Share the vision you or your company has for the future.

Even this document you read at the moment and all the other help documents for this website have been already written using the article utility.

It's even possible to share an article from your profile to a project you have a role in and vice-versa or share it to one of your products, for more details about managing articles, please read:
The Articles Manager.

How to create and write an article?

This question is all what this document is about to answer, so before starting let's continue with the organization which called My Organization (the one we have already created in our first tutorial Create Profile).

Now let's assume that My Organization is working in the field of building Muqarnas, so our mission now is to build a new article that talks about the Muqarnas art first then add a video for how My Organization does the muqarnas work, then add some images from the projects achieved by My Organization.

So let's create a new Article first place, click the "+" tab located to the right of the organization tab bar (if you can't see the toolbar at the moment, make sure that you are signed in first, then click the Home menu), then assign the name Muqarnas Art to the newly created article, then press the Enter key.

After you press the enter key, notice that the newly created tab is looking slightly reddish, the red color implies that the article is currently invisible to public (any newly created article is invisible to public by default, and that sounds logic indeed, as since the newly created article is empty, this means that it is is not ready for publishing yet), notice also that a new tab has been created on the right side of the tab bar called Articles Manager, through the Articles Manager page you can switch the visibility of any article to true and a lot of other tasks, for more details about the Articles Manager please refer to the following document:
The Articles Manager

Now click the newly created tab called Muqarnas Art to open the article and hence start editing:

The Article structure, click to enlarge

As you might have noticed from the previous figure, the Article consists of "Rows" stacked over each other and fill the entire page's width, each Row consists of Cells (maximum # of cells/row=12 whereas the minimum # of cells/row = 1), each cell has a content type, the Content Type is either:

Text

Image

Youtube video

You can switch the Cell's type by clicking the Content Type button (check the figure above).
whenever you create a new article, a new Row contains one Cell of the type text is created for you and has the word Title written in the middle.

Important: for the best compatibility with tablets and smart phones, try as much as possible not to extend the multimedia elements width (whether an image or a youtube video) to more than 75% of the container cell's width, otherwise a lot of white space might occur between the row that contains this multimedia element and the next row inside the article when displayed on that kind of devices.

Now let's delete the word Title and type: Muqarnas Art instead, then insert a new Row with only one Cell and switch the cell content type to Text, then delete "Start typing..." and type the following instead:

The text you see here has been quoted from Wikipedia.com

Now let's add 2 Youtube videos in the same row, go to www.youtube.com and search for Muqarnas, click any random video to play, then right click the video screen then select Copy Embed code then return back to your article and insert a new row that consists of 2 cells.

Set the content of the first cell at the left to Youtube then paste whatever you have just copied inside the dialog that will appear, then click OK.

A youtube frame will appear, the frame is small and has a title bar at the bottom, drag the frame from the lower right corner to enlarge it to reach the width of approximately 75% of the container cell for the sake of compatibility with tablets and smart phones as we have already discussed earlier on this page.

Do the exact same thing with the cell at the right, the final Row should look as follows:

The next step is to add an image gallery for the Muqarnas works pretending that those images were taken from projects achieved by our Organization, but first, insert a new row contains one cell contains a brief deion regarding the Image gallery that will come next.

Then start by adding 1 row contains one cell and place a picture inside, then divide this cell into two cells.

The split tool

All what the Split tool shown above is doing is reduce the current cell's width into the half, and add a new empty cell to the right has the same width as the original cell's width after reduction.

This how your article should appear after splitting the cell:

Important: sometimes the cell does not split into exactly two halves as expected and that will only occur if the width of the cell you want to split is equal to 1/4, 5/12, 7/12, or 11/12 of the row's width.

Now before adding content to the right-hand cell, let's split it into two halves as well, after splitting takes place, click the increase width tool for each cell as follows:

When you finish, you should have left with a row that has three equally cells width, now fill in the two new cells with images and again try to avoid filling the entire cell's width to avoid leaving too much space under the pictures when they got displayed on tablets and smart phones

The last thing we want to do now is to swap places between the second and the third cell, use the following Swap tool to acheive that:

The swap tool, click to enlarge

I think it's time now to make the last preview and save the changes for the last time.

The next logical step will be to make the article available to the public, to achieve that, click the Articles Manager tab from your Organization toolbar, then click the small red circle next to the article's name and make sure that the circle's color has been turned to green, then refresh your browser's window.

For more information about the Articles Manager, Please read the following document:
The Articles Manager
